Dillsboro Drop aka: "the Dam Rapid" in Dillsboro, NC

This section of the Tuckasegee river just outside of Sylva, NC is a whitewater float a notch down from the neighboring Nantahala River in Bryson City, NC. The Tuck as locals call it, is warmer water with class two rapids from Dillsboro to Barkers Creek River Access. You can rent rafts, and inflatable kayaks locally or go on a guided trip on Jackson's most commonly run section of whitewater.

SAFETY

Always wear and appropriately fitting personal flotation device when on moving water.

You can view suggested water levels at American Whitewater.

Be aware of your own abilities as a private boater. Whitewater is inherently dangerous.

Consider one of the following professional outfitters to show you the river. This is a 911 area with good cell service off the river, and potentially spotty on the river. Harris Regional Hospital is the closest hospital in Sylva, NC.

OVERVIEW

This is a class two river at summer flow levels. After heavy rains and during the Winter and Spring the Tuck will change in character to something beyond the skill level of the most common paddler here. If you chose one of the outfitters to rent or book a guided trip with, they'll manage the logistics on and off the river.

Private boaters can put in at Dillsboro River access. The parking here is minimal and the turn around is small. During the summer this can be a very congested place. The take out is at the Barkers Creek public river access area on highway 74. The land along the Tuck is privately owned. Please stay in the river on your river trip.
